Paperwork and bureaucracy in Granada

Spanish bureaucracy is one of the most stressful parts of moving here. Much of it depends on the right appointment, the right document, and the right timing.

This is a general overview to help you understand the pieces. It is not legal or immigration advice - for that, we refer clients to qualified professionals.

NIE and TIE

The NIE is your foreigner identification number, needed for almost everything from contracts to bank accounts. Non-EU residents typically also deal with the TIE residency card. The process depends on your nationality and situation, and appointments can be hard to get.

Empadronamiento

Empadronamiento is registering your address with the local town hall. It is required for many other steps, including healthcare and school registration, so it is often one of the first things to sort out after you have an address.

Healthcare registration

How you access healthcare depends on your status - employed, self-employed, student, retiree, or private. Registering with the public system usually requires empadronamiento and the right paperwork; many newcomers also take out private insurance.

Digital certificate

A digital certificate lets you handle many official processes online, which can save enormous amounts of time. Getting one involves verifying your identity, and we can help you understand and prepare for the process.
