Living in Pampaneira
Pampaneira is the entry point to the Poqueira Gorge, the most dramatic and visited valley in the Alpujarras, where three white villages - Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira - cascade down an impossibly steep ravine.
It is the most accessible of the three, with a small square, craft shops selling the region's distinctive Alpujarras textiles, and views that stop visitors in their tracks.
Best for: Those who want the most picturesque Alpujarras setting and are committed to a mountain lifestyle.
Pros
- Exceptionally beautiful village setting
- Strong craft and cultural tradition
- Established community of foreign long-term residents
- Access to excellent walking routes
Cons
- Very small - limited local services
- A car is essential for everything beyond the village
- Busy with day visitors in summer and at weekends
