Living in Capileira

Capileira sits at around 1,400 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest permanently inhabited villages in Spain, with views across the Poqueira Gorge and up to the peaks of Mulhacén and Veleta.

It is the starting point for serious mountain routes into the Sierra Nevada national park, and has a correspondingly hardy, outdoor-focused community of both Spanish and foreign residents.

Best for: Mountain walkers, climbers, and those seeking the most dramatic Alpujarras setting.
